“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” is a True Thought to keep in mind when considering What Makes a Living Book. If a book really ‘comes alive’ for you as the writer conveys their passion and knowledge of their subject; if reading it seems like a conversation with an old friend; if it evokes some strong feeling in you, or if it resonates or changes you in some deep way, chances are you’ve found a Living Book.
My lists are not comprehensive (in time I shall unearth some links to such Wondrous Places… if you know of any please let me know!), rather I have tried to mention some possibly less well known gems I have unearthed. So many beautiful books are found ‘off the beaten track’…. I would love to hear about any serendipitous finds you might have on your own bookshelves or your local library!
Please excuse the lack of alphabetisation… (five kids under nine and a real life to somehow keep up with too!) Perhaps you could imagine it as a glorious jumble-sale sort of bookpile… the kind I love best!! Happy fossicking! I hope you find just what you need!
