Several years ago when we were holidaying at Second Valley , Liadhan and I were sitting under the cliffs on a shingle beach just the other side of the jetty. We saw a mouse run under one of the concrete steps that is part of a path around the bottom of the cliffs. Some seconds later a brown snake slithered along and followed the mouse under the step. Not long after both came tumbling out, the snake with the mouse in a deadly grip. Liadhan managed to get to the camera and film the grisly encounter before the snake freaked out and took its prey back under the step. It was an amazing thing to witness.
