Because we have two deaf children the gift of hearing is something that is more prominent in our thinking. But so too is the notion that deafness is a gift. Every day we are presented with new and wonderful gifts through Esther and Eva..
Imagine being at the beach and paddling in the water or rolling about in the waves as the wash up the sand and race back out again. Imagine for a moment the sound of the waves, the screech of the seagulls overhead and the squeals of delight from children splashing each other as they frolic in the shallows. Imagine, if you can, that you are unable to hear any of these sounds.
Until the other day that has been the case for Esther and Eva. The hearing aids they have are not waterproof. So at the beach, under the sprinkler, in the shower or bath, in the paddling pool or swimming in the dam they have had to take their hearing aids out. But not any more!
On Friday they were fitted with water proof hearing aids. It was too cold to go to the beach but it was just fine for a bath in front of the fire.
